Dear Past Pupil of Oakhill

Let’s start with an apology. Following the despatch of an earlier circular that many of you received on FaceBook (“Oakhill Group”), you were encouraged to reply. Sadly the address given to you had not yet been set-up and thus the only replies I received were from Michael Hallick and Kali Bell. All of your many replies are out there in the ether. Sorry for that! The correct link has now been created. Focusing on Old Oaks is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Kali Bell got through on “peebee” . She was in that first Group of Grade 9 girls who played hockey – Brett Gilbert, Mia Fischer, Vanessa Hallick, Jess Butcher and little Totti and the mob who ran around like a rugby scrum, with 11 captains. Kali is now in Western Australia and of all things is hoping to become a School teacher! The only other reply I received was from Michael Hallick who is thriving in London. He has 2 children, but I don’t know if they are seamers or leggies, but they can’t have a better dad...

OAKHILL PAST PUPILS ASSOCIATION, known as “Old Oaks”, not to be confused with the Past Pupils of Somerset College

Oakhill Facebook Group

Calling all Past Pupils (and that means any pupil who registered and Oakhill since its inception in 1992 – and is in good grace – which means YOU

Oakhill has been a hive of activity of late
The Founder Pupils will remember the fenced off perimeter and the shabby rooms.  Where the Little Acorns were schooled is now a luxurious administration block, with a huge Headmaster office with one way glass. This is very different to the pokey holes that Elna Brown shared (as the only secretary - who is still doing  the reception, having had a cancer scare) with the first Headmaster Alan Graham .

Mr Graham is now Headmastering in the UK. His daughter , Reniera  (now O’Donnell updated us on her dad. )
The area between the dilapidated College classrooms and the hall, now houses 8 new rooms , built under the rule of Hilton Stander who joined in 2000 and left our shores in 2008. Hilton also fulfilled PeeBee’s dream. He converted the 2 old tennis courts into an Astroturf Outdoor arena. The hockey has improved to such an extent that of the 28 boys from Grade 7 to Grade 12, who play hockey, 19 of them gained Provincial SWD colours. PeeBee coaches the SWD Under 16 who play in the top division nationwide, and the chap from Kwazulu- Natal who used to bowl off the wrong foot – Dave Pryke – coaches the SWD Under 18 that also plays in the National competition.

You will remember the thrill when Ingo Hilbert (in 1996) become the first Oakhill boy to be given SWD colours. These days, the Van Staden sisters (Ingo and Kirsty) and a potential Olympic athlete Mikela Oliver represent the new generation.
